Daily Recap For 9/29/12

We had a few magazine scans & videos posted today, among other things. That new controller from SteelSeries looks pretty cool, but like I said in the post, I think $80 is a bit steep (even if it does support multiple systems [Android, iOS, PC, & Mac]). The video project I mentioned the other day is still on-going. Thought it was done today, but it didn’t want to record correctly so I had to start over. Going to try to finish it on Sunday. We’ll also have the GameSaga Podcast sometime tomorrow as well. If you want to ask a question for the show, comment on this post, e-mail us, or message us on Facebook or Twitter. As always, thanks for checking out the blog and for any and all comments. Daily Recap For 9/28/12 (Yesterday)

Didn’t have a whole lot on the site today due to my having a lot of work to day at my day job and then I slept when I got home. The video project I mentioned the other day is still on-going. I’ll try to finish it up this weekend. And of course we’ll have the GameSaga Podcast this weekend as well. Gamasutra Interview With Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida

Gamasutra has an interview (in article form) posted with Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida. Yoshida-san discusses why PlayStation Vita has not seen as much success as previous PlayStation systems amongst other things. Here’s a portion of the interview article:

“Of course, being one of PlayStation’s top executives, his opinion is just slightly biased. But he openly admitted that developer apprehension towards the Vita was unexpected. “One thing that was surprising and disappointing to us was the [lower] number of third parties to come out [in support] after launch.

“”…In retrospect, there are so many options for publishers now that we cannot take it for granted that our new platform would be supported by third parties, like [it would’ve been] many years ago.”””

You can check out the full article at the link below.

My take? I can’t say that I personally am too surprised that developers are skittish about the system. Nintendo has been a portable juggernaut for years now, ever since the original Game Boy. They took down all challengers in the portable arena, Sega, Atari, NEC, SNK, Tiger, Nokia, Sony (with the PSP), and more. Apple hasn’t even managed to kill off Nintendo’s portable business, despite the rabid success of the iPhone & iPad line of devices. Sony has their work cut for them if they want to make the Vita and/or a possible future portable, a success. One of their main problems I think is that the system is too expensive for consumers. $250 is too much for a portable, as Nintendo learned with the 3DS. Sony is on the right track with some of their bundles (by including a game and memory card), but I think they still need to lower the price to $200 or less if they want it to sell.
