“Obscure Becomes Final Exam and Gets Its Own Website and New Screenshots

Unveiled a few months ago with the title Obscure, the game under development by part of Hydravision’s ex-members – creators of the Survival Horror series of the same name – has changed name. This decision was actually dictated by the numerous reactions from the original console game’s fans who, after Mighty Rocket Studio announced the new release, regretted it was not a real sequel to the Obscure series.

“When we read the first comments following the announcement of our new game, we understood that our fans expected a different content from a game entitled ‘Obscure’”, explains François Potentier, director at Mighty Rocket Studio. “We understand fans all the better because we are first and foremost passionate gamers! Thus, even if the game makes a great number of references to Obscure and Obscure 2, we thought it important to rename it. At the end of the day, it’s a question of honesty and respect to the gamers. ‘Final Exam’ does befit the game accurately. Final Exam is the first corner stone of our new studio, and we hope this title will enable us to grow, as we have not given up on the idea of developing a real sequel to Obscure.”

And so, under this new name and with brand new images, Final Exam opens the doors to its official website today! The Final Exam official website was also optimised for smartphones and touch-screen tablets, to let you throw yourselves into the crazy world of the game, wherever you are.

The site shows you everything you ever wanted to know about this action-packed 2.5D side-scroller, including details on the gameplay and the combat system, information on the super-fun cooperative mode, details on the four playable characters, on the monsters who will try and annihilate you, and on the arsenal at your disposal to nuke them off! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the media topic of the website: in the months to come, it will be updated with images and videos! The site will also provide the latest news about the game, the social media threads, and the Dev Blog from the developers, Mighty Rocket Studio, who will publish exclusive information.

To celebrate the launch, we would like to share with you three unpublished images from the game. Discover Nathan and Cassy, two of the four playable characters, grappling with particularly nasty monsters. And meet the ‘Tank’, a terrifying uninvited guest that will make life horribly difficult for our friends!

Final Exam will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC next September.”

Chinese Government May Lift Video Game Consoles Ban

china flag Chinese Government May Lift Video Game Consoles Ban

According to the South China Morning Post, the Chinese government may soon end their 13 year long ban on video game consoles. But like most things, there’s a catch. Foreign businesses like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft must produce their products in the new free trade zone in Shanghai. This part of a plan by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to open the Chinese economy to the world and make their currency more widely used. Despite the ban, you can still purchase consoles in China through many black market and pirate shops which likely would have fewer customers if the ban is lifted.

Shigeru Miyamoto Discusses Super Mario 3D World & A Possible New Franchise

shigeru miyamoto Shigeru Miyamoto Discusses Super Mario 3D World & A Possible New Franchise

Famitsu recently interviewed Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto about Super Mario 3D World. Miyamoto-san said:

“With 3D World, we’re aiming for something where everyone can have fun competing against with each other, not just in co-op. If it was a straight competition, it’d be hard to tell characters apart from one other, so with this project we introduced different abilities for each character, letting you play in different ways.”

In referring to Princess Peach being a playable character in the game, which hasn’t happened in a main series Mario entry since Super Mario Bros. 2, he said:

“It is a surprise, isn’t it? With New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the only character you could play as besides Mario and Luigi was Toad, and we did get requests from female players for some other character they could play as. I suppose that, to many women, controlling a guy with a mustache isn’t really their first choice! So we thought of a few candidates, and we decide that if we had a Peach like she was in Super Mario Bros. 2 that was able to float a bit, that’d be easy to control for beginners.”

He goes on to discuss his design philosophy when it comes to Mario games:

“Mario is a jumping action game, after all. With a lot of games these days, you have a ton of camerawork and you don’t really know what you’re doing, but you still get a lot of excitement and exhilaration out of it. I’m not saying those games are bad, but in the end, for us, whether it’s Mario or Pikmin, we think it’s the most fun if you work out what you’re playing in your mind and decide where to go next by your own free will. That’s something I think we should ensure stays in what we do.”

Miyamoto-san also discussed the Wii U in general and hinted at the possibility of him working on a new franchise:

“With the most recent version update the system runs a lot better, and while there will continue to be improvements in the future, I think it’s to the point where it’s a convenient thing to have in the living room. Of course, these sorts of updates mean nothing if we don’t put out games for it, and I hope people are looking forward to the games coming up. We’ll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we’ll have the whole lineup in place, so I think it’s about time we brought out a new franchise. I can’t give out details, but that’s the title that’s been keeping me pretty busy lately.”

Morning LOL – Cloud Based Saving

cloud based saving Morning LOL Cloud Based Saving

Haha, that is an awesome comment there. But in all seriousness, is cloud based saving a good thing or not? I can see both good and bad with it. Good because you don’t have to lug around a hard drive or memory cards or worse yet your entire system, but bad because what happens if the server storing your data crashes/dies? Your save(s) could be gone forever. That’s not something I’d want to experience.
