Sony Possibly Purchasing Nintendo eDRAM Supplier

renesas plant tsuruoka Sony Possibly Purchasing Nintendo eDRAM Supplier

Sony is possibly considering purchasing the Renesas plant located in Tsuruoka, Japan. This is where Nintendo currently has DRAM chips produced for the Wii U. Sony is also considering changing the plant to production of CMOS sensors for use in smartphones. If Sony goes through with that plan, Nintendo will have to find a new production partner for their DRAM chips. If Sony keeps things status-quo, then Nintendo could still have the chips produced at the same plant, but would just be paying Sony instead. The plant was scheduled to be closed before Sony decided to look into purchasing it, so if Sony does purchase it, they not only likely saved the jobs of lots of workers in the plant, but also have possibly prevented Nintendo from having to find a new supplier for DRAM chips.

Capcom Teases New Games For 2014

capcom logo 300x66 Capcom Teases New Games For 2014

4Gamer recently spoke to several members of Capcom’s staff and they briefly discussed possible plans for 2014 games.

  • Another classic Capcom game will be revived by the end of 2014, possibly will be announced in the Spring or Summer (I’m thinking an E3 announcement seems most likely)
  • Shu Takumi (Ace Attorney Developer) will have a new game announced next year
  • Takeshi Yamazaki (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies Director) says that the team is underway with the next game (not sure if a new Phoenix Wright game, or something else)
  • It’s possible Takumi-san & Yamazaki-san are working on the same game or perhaps different games

Sega Considering Additional Free-to-Play Games For 3DS

initial d perfect drift online screen 1 300x182 Sega Considering Additional Free to Play Games For 3DS

It looks like Sega isn’t going to stop at just one Free-to-Play title (Initial D Perfect Drift Online on 3DS), they’re discussing possible future F2P titles internally according to Chief Creative Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi. Nagoshi-san says an interview with Famitsu:

We don’t intend to stop with this title, and after looking over its results, we’ll think about what to do next. However, unlike games for smartphones, I believe there’s a perfect shape of ways to do things, somewhere out there, for the Nintendo 3DS. I believe that finding it will be our challenge, and in many ways, Initial D will be our first step.

At the moment, I can say that we’ve been thinking about plenty of things. We have suggestions amongst ourselves like ‘wouldn’t this be a perfect game for a F2P title on Nintendo 3DS’ and many more. So when the time comes to talk about it… we’ll just leave it at that for now.

China Bans Battlefield 4 Over National Security Issue

battlefield 4 promo art 300x187 China Bans Battlefield 4 Over National Security Issue

China has seemingly banned Electronic Arts’ first person shooter, Battlefield 4, because it could endanger national security. There is an image posted on China.com which translates as follows:

Ministry of Culture: Battlefield 4 is an illegal video game, with content that endangers national security. It is an aggressive attack on our culture. After the ban of Battlefield 4, we demand that all items related to the game — downloads, Raiders, patches and news — are to be deleted.

We have contacted Electronic Arts for a comment and will update this post when it is received.
