1982
  • Nintendo of America’s Founder & President Minoru Arakawa and then attorney Howard Lincoln meet with Sid Sheinberg at Universal Studios. The two men tell Universal that Nintendo is refusing to pay royalties for Donkey Kong as they do not believe it to be an infringement of the King Kong IP.

1984

  • The Atari 5200 console is officially discontinued by Atari, Inc.
  • The Atari 7800 ProSystem (AKA Atari 7800) is announced by Atari, Inc. The consoles features include: higher resolution graphics than the Atari 5200, an optional keyboard to make it like a home computer, and backwards compatibility with Atari 2600 game cartridges. The launch price is set at $149.00. The name was chosen because 7800 is the sum if you add 5200 and 2600 together.

2000

  • Fox airs an episode of the Futurama TV show in the U.S. In this episode, there is a scene at a pizza restaurant. In this restaurant there is an arcade game, called “Monkey Fracas Jr.” This of course is referring to Donkey Kong Jr.

2001

  • The U.S. launch price for the GameCube is announced by Nintendo. The MSRP for the new system will be $199.00.
  • Red Faction is released by Volition, Inc. & THQ for the PlayStation 2 in North America.

2002

  • The GameCube receives its first price cut, dropping from $199.95 to $149.95 in the U.S.
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is announced by Take Two Interactive Software as coming to the PlayStation 2. The game was scheduled to release on October 22nd.

2004

  • Rallisport Challenge 2 is released by Digitial Illusions & Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox in Europe.

2008

  • Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness – Episode 1 is released by Hothead Games & Zeboyd Games for PC, Linux, Mac OS X, Xbox 360, & PlayStation 3.

2009

  • Mass Effect is released by BioWare & Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360 in Japan.

2010

  • A Google Doodle is placed on Google.com that allows players to play a version Pac-Man in the company’s logo in honor of the 30th anniversary of the release of the game. This For 48 hours users worldwide can play the 255 levels of the game.
  • Resident Evil 4 is released by Capcom for the iPad in Japan.
  • Split/Second is released by Black Rock Studio & Disney Interactive Studios for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, Java ME, & the OnLive cloud gaming service in Europe.
  • Red Dead Redemption is released by Rockstar San Diego & Rockstar Games for the Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 in Europe & Australia.
  • ModNation Racers is released by United Front Games (PS3), SCE San Diego Studio (PSP), & Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Portable in Europe.

2013

  • Microsoft’s eighth generation console the Xbox One was unveiled at an event held at the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington.
  • Fast & Furious: Showdown is released by Firebrand Games & Activision for the PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, & 3DS.
  • Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is released by Traveller’s Tales & Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the Wii U worldwide.
  • Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is released by Insomniac Games & Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Vita.
  • Resident Evil: Revelations is released by Capcom & Tose for the PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, & Xbox 360 in North America.

2014

  • Drakengard 3 is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 3 in Europe by Access Games & Square Enix.
