Eiji Aonuma Says Zelda Tutorials Will Stop Being Excessive

According to a recent interview Kotaku’s Jason Schreier conducted with The Legend of  Zelda series Producer/Director Eiji Aonuma, the popular series will be seemingly abandoning the recent trend of excessive tutorials. This is in direct response towards criticism some people gave Skyward Sword and its long intro/tutorial before the “real action” began. In the interview Aonuma-san said:

“In a game, it’s when you get stuck, when you want that help. And I kinda frontloaded all that in Skyward Sword, and it doesn’t really help to get that information when you don’t know what to do with it. So that was a real learning experience for me. So I’m going to be careful not to do that.”

As seen in the latest entry in the series, A Link Between Worlds, Aonuma-san has lived up to this statement thus far as you weren’t given much of an intro at all and just got to go about your business and figure things out on your own. Nintendo did however include the optional Hint Ghosts in the game which players could consult if they were stuck in the 3DS game. It seems like given Aonuma’s statement that Zelda Wii U may see a somewhat similar system implemented, but this remains to be seen as the game is still relatively early.
