marc-whitten-featured-gamesaga

It must be that time of year for video game staff departures as now we have news that Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer of Xbox has left Microsoft. Mr. Whitten is leaving to take the same positiong at Sonos, which is a California based consumer electronics company focusing on audio equipment. One of their main products is the Sonos Wireless HiFi Music System. Mr. Whitten issued a statement regarding his departure and to fans:

I started at Xbox on April 1, 2000, when the console was just a vision of what gaming could be. Over the last fourteen years, I’ve worked with an amazing team of highly passionate people who are driven to make gaming and entertainment the best experience for our Xbox fans. Since then, we’ve shipped over a hundred million consoles with tens of millions of people on Xbox Live. And, we are just getting started. There are amazing things on the horizon and I am so excited to see where this talented group of men and women will take Xbox.

One of the best parts of Xbox has been its fans. I want to thank you for making Xbox what it is today and what it will be in the future.

Since the beginning, it’s always been about gamers. In my heart, I am a gamer and Xbox has been my family. While today I am announcing my departure from Microsoft, I have the utmost confidence in this amazing team and our products.

See you on Xbox.

Still Need A Xbox One On Launch Day?

xbox-one-console-image-8

If you’re still trying to track down a Xbox One for launch this coming Friday, you might want to see if there’s a Microsoft Store in your area. According to GameSpot and IGN, Microsoft will have a limited supply on sale at midnight on November 22nd. As with any big gaming release that is not pre-ordered, it will be first come first serve for these systems, so you might want to get there early if you’re hoping to purchase a console from a Microsoft Store.

XboxQwik (aka Mike Ybarra of Microsoft Studios) posted on Twitter some screenshots of the Achievements Interface for Xbox One. Say goodbye to lists and hello to Metro UI styled image tiles. The other image shows what it looks like if you select an individual achievement. Seems like it will be a lot of work to see which achievements you have, unless Microsoft has included a toggle to go back to list view.

During development of the controller for the Xbox One, Microsoft experimented with many different designs and prototypes. One of these apparently could provide smells to the player, a sort of “Smell-O-Vision.” VentureBeat also states that Microsoft had experimented with touchpads and speakers as part of the controller, similar to what are found on the PS4 & Wii U.

First Official Launch Xbox One Guarded By…?

xbox one sharks First Official Launch Xbox One Guarded By...?

Microsoft is not stopping at just launch parties for the release of their 3rd Xbox console. They are going into the deep end, literally, well sort of. As we mentioned earlier, they will be starting the launch events in New Zealand and in honor of that Microsoft has submerged the first official Xbox One system in a case in an aquarium guarded by sand tiger sharks. Yes, you read that right, sharks (as seen above). I wonder if the purchaser of this particular console will actually play it or just keep it as a souvenir or try to re-sell it? I hope there’s a good seal on the case or else it could sustain water damage.
