Crytek Announces CryEngine Service Program, For A Fee

cryengine logo 300x37 Crytek Announces CryEngine Service Program, For A Fee

It’s starting to look like a trend now. First Unreal Engine 4, now CryEngine. Crytek has announced that will be offering their CryEngine to developers outside of Crytek. It be an “Engine-as-a-Service (EaaS) program.” What this means is that developers will get access to CryEngine just like Crytek would use, if they are willing to pay a monthly per user fee. Crytek is offering the service to indie developers first, starting in May. They will be required to pay $9.90 per user for access to the engine. Unlike with Unreal Engine 4, Crytek is not charging indie devs a royalty fee on sales of games created with its software. This is a fairly recent version of CryEngine that is being offered as it includes recent additions to the software such as Physically Based Shading, Geometry Cache, & Image Based Lighting. They also said the current CryEngine free SDK will still be available, but for developers who want to utilize the new features, they will be required to subscribe to the EaaS program. Crytek plans to share more details about the program at a later date.

Saga Thoughts For March 18th, 2014

saga thoughts logo 300x213 Saga Thoughts For March 18th, 2014
Well yesterday we finally got confirmation on the long rumored PlayStation 4 Virtual Reality headset. It’s current name is Project Morpheus and you can read more about here. It’ll be interesting to see what Sony comes up with in terms of games for the device, along with other developers.

We also posted a full preview look at the upcoming gladiatorial combat MMO game Doom Warrior from Creaky Corpse. The game is pretty fun despite that you do a lot of the same thing (fighting opponents) over and over. There’s also 20 minutes or so of gameplay footage from the beta version of the game in the same article.

Shin Megami Tensei – Now Available For The First Time Ever Outside Japan

Delve deeper into the world behind the Shin Megami Tensei universe with the game that started it all. Localized into English for the first time in history, Shin Megami Tensei explores the iconic struggle between Law and Chaos with over 40 hours of dungeon-crawling, role-playing action. The game, which regularly costs $7.99, is on sale for $5.99 through March 31.

Shin Megami Tensei is the flagship title that established ATLUS as a leading developer of mature-themed, strategy-deep role-playing games, spawning numerous subsequent franchises, such as the Persona, Devil Summoner, and Devil Survivor series. Collectors won’t want to miss this opportunity to experience the original Shin Megami Tensei role-playing game.

The iOS version of Shin Megami Tensei features

Everything little thing matters: Character choices play a major role in SMT. Not only do they affect the outcome of the game’s ending, but also critical gameplay elements along the way – from the facilities players can access to the equipment they can use even limiting the demons that are recritable.

Fuse at your own risk: With two alignment scales to deal with, Law vs. Chaos and Light vs. Dark, micromanaging teams of demon soldiers becomes an addicting challenge.

A bit longer than a bathroom break: Shin Megami Tensei is the full-fledged version of the role-playing game, meaning it’s 40-60 hours’ worth of dungeon crawling in your pocket, everywhere you go.

The first of its kind: Unless you were prescient enough to import the title from Japan and proficient enough in the language to understand the nuances of the intricate story, this is the first time the story of Shin Megami Tensei is being told in North America.

Step away from clear notions of good and evil, right and wrong. There are demons in the world, but whether they are ally or enemy depends on player actions. In Tokyo 199X, a mysterious murder leads to the emergence of demons and an escalating global conflict thanks to the rise of a charismatic rebel leader in possession of a demon army, and external forces that wish to crush such threats with extreme measures. As the protagonist, players have an unusual ability (via computer program) to communicate with and recruit demons to fight for them. As they collect demons, the program will allow you to store, summon, and fuse them to create the right team to negotiate the ever-changing balance of powers, and fight for the kind of world you ultimately wish to live in.

Shin Megami Tensei is now available exclusively on the App Store at the discounted price of $5.99 through March 31. Beginning April 1, the game will revert to its original $7.99 price.
