It’s time once again for the Weekly Smash Up, our weekly feature where we review the Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS & Wii U screenshots that Masahiro Sakurai has posted on Miiverse for the past week. For the week of June 23rd, we start off a screen showing Rosalina facing off with some sort of fairy looking person. According to posters on Miiverse, this is apparently a stage based on Pac-Land, a platformer version of Pac-Man from 1984.

Our next screenshot shows us Link in an outfit similar to the one from Skyward Sword that he wears before obtaining his traditional green tunic. He is taking aim at someone or something with his trusty bow & arrow.

Next up we get a different version of the Balloon Fight screen from a while back. This time it is showing characters quite similar to the appearance in the original NES game, albeit in modern polygonal form. Sakurai wrote in his post that it will be playable with four players. It appears this may be limited to the 3DS version as the screenshot was marked 3DS. It also looks like it will use the retro style graphics for  the stage with modern ones for the characters. This is pretty awesome in my opinion. The music in the original game was awesome and the game itself was pretty fun as well.

We then move on to a screen showing off Nabbit, with Kirby in hot pursuit. This is on the Mushroom Kingdom U screen. Sakurai-san tells us that Luigi is Nabbit’s bag even though we can’t see the green clad hero. It appears that the purple bandit will be a stage hazard for this level.

Finally, in today’s screenshot, we wrap up the week with a look at Mario & a couple of Mii Fighters. According to Sakurai, when you assign different traits to your Mii, these can be brought to the Mii Fighter playable character. So for example, a big Mii will become a powerful fighter, while a smaller one will be a quick fighter.

Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star (PS3) – Artwork, Concept Art, Screenshots, European Release Date, & Details

Tecmo Koei Europe has announced that they will be bringing Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star to the PlayStation 3 in Europe on September 26th. No North American release date has been announced thus far.

Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is described as a “7 Dimension RPG.” In the game’s world, sounds can create magic. The story sees a civilization in search of a new home throughout space after their planet was no longer inhabitable. Players will embark on their journey with two different sets of characters. The characters’ names are Delta, Casty, Ion, & Earthes. The goal of Delta & Casty is your typical RPG story of trying to save the world. Meanwhile, Ion & Earthes’ goal is to get Ion back home to Earth. You’ll be able to swap between the two pairings and will eventually be able to combine their stories.

Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is a Turn-Based RPG and will feature a synthesis system, similar to other Gust games. This will allow you to create your own items. The game will have a heavier focus on the bonds between characters than it will on missions & battles.

Speaking of battles, your characters will fight in pairs. One will be a melee attacker who has to protect the other character. The second character will be “weaving a song,” which will increase the damage done to your enemies.

Vane (PC) – Screenshots & Brief Details

Friend & Foe Games, former members of The Last Guardian dev team, have announced a new project coming to PC called Vane. They describe Vane as “a single-player game…[that] focuses on unraveling the mysteries of an unknown land via exploration, puzzle-solving and other features yet to be revealed, in an atmospheric and powerful setting. ”

So it sounds like it’s going to be a game where you have to explore everywhere to find out what’s going on and proceed through the game. They also released the above images which they said are screenshots. It’s possible the game may come to other platforms as well as PC, but that is up in the air. They also said it would be released when it’s done, so don’t expect to see Vane coming out for a while.
