  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is released by Paramount Pictures to theaters in the U.S. During the film, one scene takes place at an arcade. The arcade game Karate Champ is shown. Sound effects of Pac-Man dying are heard as well.

1990

  • Nintendo’s request for a temporary restraining order against Lewis Galoob Toys is denied by a U.S. District Court judge in San Francisco, CA. The order was Nintendo attempting to restrict Galoob from selling the Game Genie device.

1999

  • Descent 3 is released by Outrage Entertainment & Interplay Productions for the PC in North America.

2000

  • The Legend of Dragoon is released by SCEI & Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation in North America.

2001

  • The Game Boy Advance, Nintendo’s handheld entry for the sixth generation of video games is released in North America. This is the 5th member of the Game Boy line (the 3rd main release). The GBA features a 32-bit ARM RISC processor and a 2.9-inch reflective TFT 240 x 160 pixel, 32,768-color display. The handheld system measures 3.25 x 5.6 inches. It is powered via two AA batteries, which last about 15 hours.

  • Super Mario Advance is released by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in North America.
  • Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is released by Konami Computer Entertainment Kobe & Konami for the Game Boy Advance in North America.

New games shown/announced include: Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, a new Art Academy game, and Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U. They also showed more of X, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Pokémon X & Y (3DS), Wii Party U, and more.

2014

  • Day 2 of the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is scheduled to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.

It used as an example of “fun.” The building for a video game arcade is shown as well. There is also a scene where a handheld video game system is shown. It resembles the Nintendo Game Boy, but it is called “FUN BOY.”

  • The pre-events for the 2013 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) begin as Microsoft holds their E3 Press Conference. The launch price for the Xbox One is announced as being $499, €499, or £429. The launch date was narrowed down to November 2013, but a specific day was not announced.

2014

  • Enemy Front is scheduled to be released for the PC, PlayStation 3, & Xbox 360 by CI Games & Bandai Namco Games.
  • Day 1 of the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is scheduled to begin at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Nintendo files four copyright infringement suits in the US and Canada against retailers and distributors accused of selling counterfeit video game cartridges.

2000

  • Reuters issues a report that the PlayStation 2 will have export controls put on it by the Trade Ministry of Japan since the PS2 is sophisticated enough to be used for military applications. The controls put in place required the ministry’s approval for the export of more than $472.00 worth of PS2s, which would be 2 or more, as at the the time, each one was priced at $350.00.

  • Minoru Arakawa & Howard Lincoln of Nintendo begin negotiating with Atari regarding the manufacturing and distribution of a Nintendo video game system. Nintendo showed off a prototype version of the Family Computer (Famicom) which ran Donkey Kong & Popeye.

1991

  • In a major victory for Atari Games’ Tengen subsidiary, U.S District Court judge Fern Smith overturned the previous ruling preventing Tengen from selling NES cartridges, thus allowing the company to once again sell their games on the platform. This was subject to the pending outcome of an appeal.

1992

  • The second home console from Nintendo, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, is released in the UK & Ireland Price for a MRSP of £149.99.

2003

  • Microsoft lowers the price of the Xbox in Europe. It is reduced to €199.99 (~$277.43 in 2014) on the mainland, and £129.99 (~$217.49 in 2014) in the UK.

2006

  • Tomb Raider: Legend is released by Crystal Dynamics & Eidos Interactive for PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, & Xbox 360 in North America.
  • Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is released by EA Games & Digital Illusions for the Xbox 360 in North America.

  • The FTC’s investigation into Nintendo’s alleged price-fixing of NES prices is made public. Nintendo signed a consent decree, where they agreed to not fix prices or punish retailers who offered products at a lower price. Nintendo also agreed to send $5.00 off coupons to NES buyers who purchased between June 1st, 1988 and December 30th, 1990, towards the purchase of future Nintendo products.

1999

  • Warzone 2100 is released by Pumpkin Studios & Eidos Interactive for PC in North America.

2006

  • Odama is released by Vivarium Inc. & Nintendo for the GameCube in North America.
